Knights of Columbus Meeting September 15, 2016.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
7:50 PM meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight
Officer role call – Not present were inside guard (Dave Watznauer), trustee (Shannon Godwin), advocate (Joe Fernandez), financial secretary (Steve Rodriguez), and treasurer (Paul Martin).
Massage from Fr. Dominic Assim: We need to re-energize the parish, and change any negative perception that exists. Adoration & Benediction is next Tuesday. It would be great is this was better attended. On Sunday after Mass we will have Cookies and Donuts, Shannon Godwin is organizing this.
Travis Risvold moved to waive the reading of the minutes, and Joe Henkels seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Prior to the meeting we had a 1st degree ceremony using the video. In attendance were Joe Henkels, Kendall Geneser, and Dan Altier. Our new member is Eric Schepers. Eric is living in Grimes, and moved from Port Deposit Maryland.
This Saturday is Granger Days. Shannon is hosting bingo down town.
Treasures Report: $7,301 in checking, $13,018 in CD. We made $3,674 on the tootsie roll drive.
Larry was not present to talk about the Christians at Risk charity.
We talked about a “Big Idea” – serving a meal at Rock Power Pizza
Rock Power Pizza was opened by Derrick Walton, Chef D, who was once homeless. Chef D opened the pizza place at the beginning of 2014 and was given a $10,000 donation from Ellen DeGeneres. Rock Power Pizza is located on 4211 SW Ninth Street on the south side of Des Moines. Every Monday night from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Rock Power Pizza feeds homeless people for free. Chef D was once a homeless man and wants to give back and be that hope for other homeless people. Phone: 515-243-9994
Joe Henkels, Ken Welch, Travis Risvold, Ken Wiley, and Tony Slack are working on making this happen.
Dan Merry’s neighbors Norm and Mary were extremely appreciative of all the help cutting down trees. They made several donations because of all the help received (K of C $200, American Legion $200, and Boy Scouts $200).
Granger days: We need 4-6 guys at 7:30 for the pancake breakfast. Parade is at 10:00 AM. We need guys to ride in the back of Tom’s truck (Meet at 9:30). Bingo is 3-5 downtown (Shannon Godwin).
T-shirts for confirmation retreat. Dale made a motion to use $300 to pay for t-shirts for the confirmation retreat. Travis seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Kendall talked about flooding in Louisiana.
Note from Pam Kitt – We need benches to be made for the youth choir, ~$400 is needed. Travis motioned to spend the $400 for the benches, John seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Jodi Bermel reported that Gretchen Watznauer called and informed us that Dave’s heart is working at 30% and is responsive to questions. He has pneumonia, but he continues to recover. Keep Dave in your prayers. Travis made a motion to spend $200 to purchase gas cards for the Watznauer family. Joe seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Jodi reminded us about the upcoming Christ our Life conference.
For the good of the order: Kendall mentioned that this will be his final meeting until March because of his job.
