Meeting of Knight of Columbus Council 12130
Meeting was called to order by GK Wiese at 707pm
Opening prayer was the Our Father
Pledge of Allegiance was recited
Roll Call of Officers – 13 present.
Chaplain’s Message – skipped
Reading of minutes motion to waive by Br. Slack, second by Br. Wiley. Minutes have been posted by Br. Risvold on Wednesday morning.
GK report – Our activity and fundraisers have been pretty much non-existent. However we did do a burrito breakfast on Sunday, Oct 25th. We also cooked up hot dogs and hot chocolate for the Trunk or Treat on Saturday Oct 31st. We helped a gentleman in need of clearing brush around his place to allow wheel chair access to an existing ramp. This was done on early on Saturday Oct 24th. Saturday morning the 21st is Fall Clean Up, so another opportunity to assist. Youth group members and a scout pack plan on being there, we have received a reasonable request to wear masks even though we will be outside. GK Wiese again encouraged any Knight who has not yet advanced to higher degrees to do so. The online process is rather painless.
District Deputy Report – Dennis Westover was absent so no report
Treasurer’s Report – Br Martin reported balances of accounts. Also a discussion of whether we want to move the CD, and also how much endowment money do we want to spend. No motion or decision was made.
Financial Secretary’s Report – Br Letsch was absent. Reported that invoices/notices for 2021 dues have gone out electronically. Joe Christiansen was available to accept payment from brothers present. New this year was the ability to make you payment via credit or debit card. Thanks Joe!!
Reading of Bills and Communications – No bills or communications
Report of any current committees – skipped
Chancellor Report – Br Henkels reported no new news, then went on to say that here was enough money raised to move the bridge, place planters in the Terrain Therapy Garden at the VA. Putting green is going to be next, as well as taking down the fence. Baby bottle campaign raised what they wanted.
Insurance Agent – Br Tatz was absent so no report
Officer Meetings – December was a time frame that we most likely would have one, there are some end of the year reports due. A council meeting in December is questionable at this point although it is already in the bulletin for Dec 17th. This meeting is usually a social meeting with wives, very short, but we will probably have an officer meeting instead. There is also the possibility of having to live stream the meeting in January.
Old business
Knights’ Scholarships – all recipients have expressed thanks at the time of receipt or email response when we requested their student id. One thank you car from Mallory Schmitz. Card was passed around for everyone to see.
Tootsie Rolls – Travis is taking over for Dave Nixon- possibilities discussed last month but now with up tick in Covid and the holidays GK Wiese expressed his opinion that it should be shelved until spring. General concensus was that is the right approach, and we will review it again in the spring.
Coats for Kids – Discussion led us to move this to the officers meeting in December to decide as long as the amount is less than $500. Contact is Br Geneser, Br Godwin, and Br Risvold.
New Business
Joppa – 2020 Homeless Christmas Celebration will have no meal this year. Due to restrictions and the safety of guests, volunteers, and staff we will be bringing Christmas to 300 or so homeless individuals in Des Moines. 3E (Br VanBrocklin) donates $1000 every year, and Br Henkels will approach 3E to try to get $500. Motion by Br Henkels and second by GK Wiese for the council to donate the other $500 for this event. Vote was unanimous in favor. We are able to help also by purchasing these gifts on the Joppa website.
Fish Frys – Fish Heads = GK Wiese, Br Watznauer, Br Letsch, Br Elbert, and new addition Br Christiansen are considering drive-through only (assuming we’ll be able to have this significant fund raiser). There would be 2 lines (pre-order and drop ins). Ash Wednesday is February 17th so we need to have this worked out in some shape or form well before then.
Fall Clean Up – Reminder that this occurs Saturday morning November 21st, 8am until done. “many hands make for light work”. Br Bermel has the key to dump south of town.
Next Meeting – More than likely not going to happen. As stated before, we will probably have an officer’s meeting in December and then maybe virtual in January depending on the circumstances.
Good of the Order – Substantial list of prayer requests for Good of the Order. Questioned whether we want this emailed out to Knights. Br Merry motioned and Br Henkels second for this to happen. Voted on – Yes, passed. Please check for an email from the Grand Knight.
Closing prayer – Hail Mary
Meeting adjourned at 8pm
