Assumption Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes – May 16, 2019
Meeting called to order 7:30 PM
Roll call – Not present: Chancellor Dale Limoges, Warden Chris Kitt, Advocate Joe Fernandez, Trustee Travis Risvold.
Nancy Prall and Gary Friemel talked to us about Volunteer Community Services of Woodward & Granger and thanked us for our support. So far there are 27 clients and 15 volunteers. They need more volunteers. United Way 55T volunteers can get reimbursed. 3,764 volunteer miles, 641 volunteer hours, and 117 trips have been logged. Frank Geneser has donated storage space for durable medical equipment.
Chaplains message: It is still Easter season. The Crucifixion vs. the resurrection is a mystery. The Eucharist is a unifying factor. Make yourself available to the Grace present in the Eucharist.
Marty Herrmann made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, Ken Wiley seconded the motion; motion passed.
Ken Welch became our newest 4th Degree member on May 3rd. Congratulations Ken!
Raffle tickets purchased for Fr. Dominic was a success…he won!
Fr. Koch is still not doing well and needs our prayers.
Grand Knight: It has been a great month. Highlights are: K of C Scholarships awarded, Mary’s Meals 5K fundraiser (raised enough money to feed 850 kids for a year), church grounds cleanup (thank you to the seven Knights who volunteered).
Treasurer’s report: $18,183 in checking, $16,967 in CD, $8,000 in the Bill Geneser Scholarship Fund CD.
Tom Letsch talked about the remaining Knights left to pay dues. We discussed waiving dues for some members with financial and/or health issues. Shannon made a motion to allow officers meeting to determine if we should waive members dues due to special circumstances on a case by case basis. Marty seconded the motion; motion passed.
Intervisions Clinic fundraiser is Thursday, June 6th. $150/ couple. One table was filled at the meeting.
Money was donated for flowers for priests’ graves. This is a mission of the Beaverdale Knights of Columbus.
Mike Musich talked about the Granger Trails Committee. There is a Facebook page for more information. Named donations for bike rack and park bench are needed.
Nomination of Officers: Merlyn Weisse for Deputy Grand Knight, Joe Henkels for Chancellor (we discussed increasing the role for chancellor), Dan Altier for Secretary, Dan Merry for Outside Guard, Paul Martin for Treasurer, Paul Hauser for Warden, Ken Welch for inside guard, and Travis Risvold, Shannon Godwin, Kendall Geneser for Trustees.
Father Dominic has asked for assistance with a project to get indoor water to a parish church rectory, and school in Ghana. Total anticipated need is $7,000. Tom Letsch made a motion to provide $1,000 in seed money for this project Joe Henkels seconded the motion; motion passed. We talked about having dedicated breakfast fundraisers for this project.
Shannon Godwin talked about Hot Rods & Hogs which is planned for August 6th. The event will be coordinated as it has been in the past. Shannon made a motion to donate the Hot Rods & Hogs fundraiser proceeds to the Woodward Granger Volunteer Social Services. Tom Letsch seconded the motion; motion passed.
