Chaplain’s message – Fr. Dominic put Joe Henkels on the spot, and Joe provided the chaplain’s message…Jesus professed to being God knowing that he would be crucified for it. It is hard to fathom the ultimate sacrifice that God made for us.
We had a first degree ceremony prior to the meeting. Welcome to our newest knight, T. J. Hyatt! We also have two prospective knights that have expressed interest in joining; Greg Menke and Doug (from Algona – lives in Grimes).
We would like to plan for 6-8 K of C breakfasts over the next year. We will start with a breakfast in May. Larry will work with Brenda on a potential date.
Steve Rodriguez is leaving for a job in Houston for three years. Tom Letsch will be taking over for Steve as financial secretary.
No treasurer’s report.
No district deputy report.
Kendall encouraged us to check and see if our employers will match donations. We want to maximize our fundraising opportunities.
Tony Slack mentioned that the fraternal year ends in June. Tony is serving as deputy grand knight, but he does not want to move to grand knight. He is encouraging others to prayerfully consider stepping up to be deputy grand knight and grand knight.
40 cans for lent has been a big success. We need to plan deliveries of food to Granger, Grimes, Woodward, and North Polk.
2 rooms have been reserved for the State Convention in Davenport on April 6-8. Travis and Scott McEntee will go, and Kendall and Shannon will serve as alternates.
Joppa homeless camp cleanup will be April 7th. Steve Van Brocklin will be leading one of the largest sites which is near SE 7th.
Our Knights will be helping with security during RE classes on Sunday and Thursday evenings. Because of the recent incidents in schools, we are increasing security to protect our students. The only entry to the school will be through the church. The interior glass doors seve as the entrance gate and will be monitored by Knights members. An air horn will be used alert teachers of any problems. We need volunteers to monitor the doors.
Steve Youngs, our Knights insurance agent, was not present, but he has provided us with a giant dry erase check!
Spiritual faith formation: Tom Letsch reported that the Lenten Iowa Catholic Men’s Conference was very worthwhile and encourages us to consider attending next year. ~1,000 men were in attendance. Trent Horn and Dr. Allen Hunt were speakers. Tom also reported that there will be an 8 week bible course on Revelations that will start this fall.
Shannon Godwin reported that the fish frys have been going very well. The last two weeks have resulted in record deposits. Shannon estimates that we should have ~$2,000 more total revenue than last year.
Shannon also mentioned that our Knights of Columbus scholarship season is approaching. Shannon made a motion start the process. Scott seconded the motion. We have $9,000 that has been earmarked to support scholarships. Kendall will check with the donor on how to specifically to disperse these funds (how much per year and anonymous or not).
The tables in the gym need to remain set up for the funeral on Saturday. We need help to take down tables starting at 1PM on Saturday.
Ken Wiley reported on the VA physical therapy terrain garden. There will be a meeting on Tuesday to elect the board of directors of the new 501(C)(3) corporation created to support this project. Many corporations will not donate or match donations to religious organizations. The 501(C)(3) corporation will avoid this obstacle. They are working on engineering drawings for the site plan including footings for the retaining wall.
8:25 – Meeting adjourned.
