June 2018 Minutes
Knights of Columbus Meeting June 21, 2018.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
7:45 PM – Meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight.
Officer role call – Not present were trustees (Shannon Godwin & Travis Risvold), warden (Chris Kitt), advocate (Joe Fernandez), financial secretary (Tom Letsch), and treasurer (Paul Martin).
Ken Wiley made a motion to waive the reading of the reading the minutes; motion was seconded by Marty Herrmann. Motion passed.
Grand Knight’s report: Tootsie rolls arrived tonight. We will be having the tootsie roll drive Friday & Saturday August 3rd & 4th. Hot Rods & Hogs is also Saturday, August 4th. We will need lots of help, and we will have a sign up genius for both.
District deputy Dennis thanked our council for all we do. He advised waiting till July 1st for new member sign up, so they are counted next year.
Treasures report: $9,642 in checking ($8,000 in Bill Geneser donated scholarship fund in another account). $16,700 in CD.
We got a thank you card from Tom Derry for his Knights of Columbus scholarship.
Larry reported that the next Knights breakfast will be on July 8th, and we will be serving breakfast sandwiches.
Dale Lemoges mentioned that there is still $300 in our checking that is from last year’s tootsie roll drive and should be donated for people with intellectual disabilities.
There was a second and third degree ceremony. Phil Stanislav advanced to third degree. Phil also reported on the Intervisions dinner. Ken Welch did a great job on food, and Ken’s wife is doing a great job as director. Intervisions Clinic keeps track of a “save count” which is a count of abortion minded women that end up having a change of heart and end up delivering a baby. Over the last 6-7 years, they estimate that 672 babies’ lives have been saved!
We donated $100 to Jim Duffy from Holy Trinity Council 14049 for his effort to decorate grave sites of 43 priests with flowers for Memorial Day.
The $250 donation for Miracle League did not happen. We had a request from Dowling to help a family of a Dowling student whose mother was just released from prison. The $250 will be transferred to this cause.
We had a motion last meeting to support Ghana scholarships of $2,500. Dan Marry made a motion to allocate $2,500 for scholarships at tonight’s meeting, Marty Herrmann seconded the motion; motion passed. Fr. Dominic told us that 6 students (3 college & 3 high school) will benefit from this donation. College costs are about $900 per student, and high school costs are about $550 per student. Fr Dominic has chosen beneficiaries based on financial need and academic excellence.
Knights insurance agent steak night has been postponed. Next moth we will have an installation Mass at 6:30.
June 30th at 8:00PM there will be an Alzheimer’s walk in Granger.
Adult faith formation will be putting on a study program about the structure of the Mass. The program starts Monday, July 30th at 7PM.
Joe Henkels reported about his recent trip to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the site where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to six children starting in 1981. Jodi also talked about his trip to Medjugorje.
Ken Wiley reported about 4th degree activities. The assembly provides a chalice for deceased members. One of these chalices was to donated to Father for a Ghana priest. 3378 4th degree assembly will serve as host for exemplification at the convention.
There was a request for a $175 donation for Mary’s Meals to purchase a stand for use in fundraising. Ken Wiley made a motion to provide the $175, and Ken Welch seconded the motion, motion passed.
Hall monitors are needed during religious education classes on Wednesday nights and Sundays starting at 11 AM. Jodi Bermel will set up a signup genius for hall monitors.
