February 2018 Minutes
Knights of Columbus Meeting February 18, 2018.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal. This was also a fish fry prep night.
7:40 PM – Meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight.
Officer role call – Not present were financial secretary (Steve Rodriguez), lecturer (Dc. Tom Schenk), advocate (Joe Fernandez), warden (Chris Kitt).
Marty Herrmann mad a motion to waive the reading of the reading the minutes, motion seconded by Marty Wernimont. Motion passed.
Chaplain’s message – Fr. Dominic asked us to say a prayer for the victims of the Florida school shooting. Deacon Dennis asked us to think about what we can do to be a positive influence on someone who may be left out. How can we treat those around us generously and have a calming effect?
Grand Knight – During this period of fasting and abstinence, we are beginning our biggest fundraising season.
Steve Rodriguez is leaving for a job in Houston for three years. Tom Letsch will be taking over for Steve.
Treasurer’s Report – $10,557 checking (includes $9,000 from donation directed for scholarship funds), $16,700 in CD at 1.6% interest.
Thank you notes were received from Special Olympics, Dorothy’s House, Intervisions, and the VA hospital.
40 cans for lent food drive has started. There is also a 40/40/40 (40 cans/40 Rosaries/40 stations of the cross) challenge.
Two delegates are needed for the State Convention in Davenport on April 6-8. Travis and Marty will go, and Kendall and Shannon will serve as alternates. Kendall will book two rooms. Kendall made a motion for this plan. Travis seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
Kendall was excited to report that we now have a dry erase giant check that we can use for presenting donations.
Shannon – Shirts can be ordered through the knights gear link in the assumptionknights.org WEB site ( https://shop.empowermentsolutions.net/product-category/knights-of-columbus/ ). We will also be adding fish sandwiches to the fish fry menu. For tomorrows fish fry: 100 pounds of potatoes, 200 pounds of cod, 75 pounds of baked fish, 1 case of cabbage, 2 cases French fries, and 2 cases of pizza crust. Tonight’s prep night went well.
Kendall reported that our K of C council audit is complete.
District Deputy report: Dennis emphasized recruiting…recruiting….recruiting. He also presented the K of C Columbian (2016-2017) Award to out council!
Joe Henkels reported that a 2nd and 3rd degree ceremony will be held at 1PM Sunday. Joe and Tony will be speaking. Meet at Assumption at noon. Joe also reported that the annual Joppa homeless camp cleanup is planned for April 7th, and The VA Hospital Terrain Garden Project is in need of corporate sponsors. Please check to see if your company can help with this.
Travis reported that there is bingo planned for this Sunday. Travis and Dale cannot make it, so help is needed.
